Young Entrepreneurs Symposium (YES)
Appalchian's Center for Entrepreneurship held its annual Young Entrepreneurs Symposium (YES) February 23, 2011 at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center. It was sponsored by Back Yard Burgers
The lineup of young entrepreneurs included the founders of businesses in e-commerce, green industries, social entrepreneurship, and more. It opened with a performance from members of the dance troupe Dust It Off, Inc.. Chasing Parked Cars improv comedy group also performed.
At the end of the Symposium, the 2011 Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award winner was announced.
YES is open to all Appalachian students, faculty, and staff, as well as regional high school students, community colleges, and community members.
Keynote Speakers
Three speakers will keynote YES.
Brandon Adcock and Paul Reichelt, founders of Direct Digital, LLC, are young entrepreneurs who will address their personal story of how they have been able to generate tens of millions of dollars in sales in a year.
The other keynote speaker is Chris Yura, founder of SustainU Clothing.
SustainU is an American clothing company utilizing domestic labor and recycled fiber to create apparel for the collegiate community. Chris is a former Notre Dame football star and international model, who took his knowledge of both industries and traded them in to focus on changing your clothing to change our world.

Student Entrepreneur Of The Year
Nominations are now being accepted for the Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award. It is presented annually to an Appalachian State undergraduate student who has exhibited exceptionally meritorious entrepreneurial achievement. Students who have started businesses, exceptional on-campus programming, new clubs and organizations, as well as community service projects are all encouraged to be nominated.
The winner receives a $2,500 scholarship. You can find more information here.
