Walker College Clubs and Organizations

Deans' Council of student advisors

The Dean’s Council membership is comprised of the president and vice president of each of the student organizations within the college. The council members meet once a semester to advise the dean of their organization’s activities and to be apprised of upcoming events within the college.

Walker College's Student Travel Grant Program [PDF] assists business students with the cost of travel related to (1) course field trips, and (2) student club and organization travel, provided that the travel involves a significant educational component.

Professional Organizations

AIESEC Appalachian State
AIESEC is the world's largest student led organization and is established in over 100 countries. This club focuses on developing leadership skills as well as expanding students' worldviews. As a result, we believe individuals will use these skills to increase international understanding and cooperation, providing solutions to a more secure and peaceful world. We provide international internships and exchange, cultural events on campus, and leadership opportunities and development.

AMERICAN MARKETING ASSOCIATION (AMA)
Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Jennifer Nevins Henson
The American Marketing Association is committed to giving students a link to the business world through quality speakers from diverse industries. AMA also gives students the opportunity to participate in both professional and social activities. The organization is open to all students who have an interest in business.

APPALACHIAN SUPPLY CHAIN CLUB

Dr. Dinesh Dave
The objective of the ASCC is to promote supply chain management by offering student members the chance to interact with industry professionals, while promoting career and professional development with networking and community involvement.

ASSOCIATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS (AITP)
Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Scott Hunsinger
AITP allows students interested in Information Systems to get together for professional development and social purposes. AITP offers speakers on related topics, opportunities to meet and interact with professionals in the field (potential job contacts), and social gatherings with others of similar interests.

ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS (ASE)

The purpose of the Association of Student Entrepreneurs is to: 1) provide an organization for college students who have the passion to found, construct and operate their own successful company; 2) promote inspiration, creativity and expertise on how to start and/or operate a successful company; and 3) encourage students to interact with businesses, Appalachian faculty and other students with similar ambitions.

BETA ALPHA PSI
Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Ron Marden
Beta Alpha Psi is the International Honorary Organization for Financial Information Professionals. The purposes of Beta Alpha Psi are to help prepare accounting students for a career in accounting, develop communications skills, provide opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, encourage a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility and to aid students in finding a job. Retired Appalachian professor Dr. Eugene Butts was the National President of Beta Alpha Psi during the 1993-94 academic year.

ECONOMICS CLUB
Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Dave McEvoy
The Economics Club promotes interaction between economics majors and minors and between students and faculty. Activities include social gatherings, educational trips, and speakers regarding employment opportunities.

FINANCE STUDENT ASSOCIATION

Dr. Chris McNeil
The Finance Student Association (FSA) is open to all students. Our main goals are to better acquaint our members with the many career opportunities in banking and finance, and to promote networking with finance professionals. Our guest speakers, who are often alums, discuss things like investments, commercial banking, and corporate finance.

FUTURE HEALTHCARE EXECS

Future Healthcare Executives is a club designed for healthcare management majors as well as students interested in the healthcare field. The club gives students access to healthcare executives, information on graduate programs, trips to various hospitals, and potential internship opportunities. This club is open to all students interested in the business and healthcare industry

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT STUDENT ASSOCIATION (HTMSA)
Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Dana Clark
The purpose of HMTSA is to offer a fun, learning environment for hospitality students. Also the club prepares students for the future through guest speakers and recruiting opportunities. There is an auction in the fall to raise money for the career fair - Appalachian Springtime - held during the spring semester.

The NET IMPACT CLUB

The ASU Graduate Chapter of The Net Impact Club welcomes graduate students from any discipline to engage in a learning and net-working environment that integrates sustainable methods into business. This organization believes in the strong net impact formed when motivated people with positive social agendas put their skills to use in the surrounding community.
