David C. Marlett, PhD, CPCU
is the Director of the Brantley Center and Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University.
Previously, he was an Assistant Professor and co-director
of the Insurance Center at Old Dominion University. He teaches
the insurance principles, property / liability, and risk management
courses. David received a Bachelor of Science in Risk Management
and Insurance from Florida State University in 1990 and then
worked as a commercial lines underwriter for United States
Fidelity and Guaranty in Tampa. While working in Tampa, he
was nominated and selected to the USF&G High Potential
Training Program. David returned to Florida State University
in 1993 to enter the doctoral program. His major area of study
was risk management and insurance, with a support area in
finance. David won a Graduate Assistant Teaching Award in
1997.

David has recently published
articles in the Journal of Business, Finance & Accounting,
Journal of Insurance Regulation, Journal of Insurance Issue,
CPCU Journal, and the Risk Management and Insurance
Review. In addition to his academic and scholarly activities,
David has worked as a regional supervisor for the American
Institute for CPCU, and as a course instructor for the Risk
and Insurance Management Society. David has also served
on the board of the Central Illinois CPCU chapter as well
as the Tidewater Chapter in Virginia. In addition to his
involvement with CPCU, David is a member the American Risk
and Association and a board member for the Southern Risk
and Insurance Association.
