     Dr. Harry M. Davis is the Chairholder (1980) and Economist (1981) for the North Carolina Bankers Association. He is professor of Finance and past Chair of the Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate at Appalachian State University for seventeen years (1981-1998). Dr. Davis received his undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1970, a masters degree in Economics at Vanderbilt University in 1972, and a Ph.D. in Finance at the University of Georgia in 1976.  Dr. Davis is a member of several professional organizations including the Financial Management Association, Southern Finance Association, and Eastern Finance Association.

    He has presented numerous papers at professional meetings, published numerous papers in academic and business journals on banking and valuation issues and has served on the review board for finance journals.

    As the North Carolina Bankers Association Economist, Dr. Davis puts together an annual and quarterly economic forecast that is carried in numerous newspapers and on television. Dr. Davis is frequently interviewed throughout the year by newspapers, television, and radio stations for stories on the economy and banking.  Dr. Davis is active in the consulting field and has presented seminars to business groups both in North Carolina and nationwide. He puts together business plans and valuations for both financial and nonfinancial corporations and has served as an expert witness in numerous court cases. Dr. Davis also speaks to civic groups and writes articles for newspapers on business problems.Dr. Davis is an instructor for the North Carolina School of Banking and serves as its Curriculum Advisor. He is also an instructor for the North Carolina Insurance Executive Management School.

     Dr. Davis received the highest award for excellence at Appalachian State University when he was named the Distinguished Graduate Faculty Member in 1995. He was the first college of business faculty member and the fourth member from the entire ASU faculty to receive this award.
