Robert L. Cherry, Jr. is a professor of business law and real estate and has been at Appalachian State University since 1982. He served as Director of Graduate Studies in the College of Business from 1989 to 1995 when he administered the MBA program and provided assistance to the MsAccounting program. He has been the advisor for the Graduate Business Student Association since 1989.

Robert teaches undergraduate courses in business law and real estate principles in addition to the Law & Ethics in the Business Environment course for the MBA program.

Professor Cherry also teaches continuing education courses to real estate salespersons and brokers through the Center for Management Development in the College of Business. He has published numerous articles in professional journals such as the Real Estate Law Journal, the Journal of Law and Education, the Journal of Property Management, the Midwest Law Journal, the American Business Law Journal and the International Journal of Management.

Professor Cherry received his undergraduate degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After attending Officer Candidate School and serving as an officer in the United States Navy for three and one half years, he obtained a Master of Business Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then worked for three years as Executive Director of the North Carolina Dental Society before attending law school and receiving his Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest University.

Professor Cherry was in the full time practice of law for three years prior to coming to Appalachian State University in 1982.
