Walker College of Business Beroth Scholarship Golf Tournament

"We played golf, we raised money and we had a lot of fun – and that’s what it’s all about."

Winfield with PeacockThat was Winfield Beroth's summation of the day, at the end of the 17th Annual Appalachian State Scholarship Golf Classic, also known as the Beroth Scholarship Golf Tournament. It was held September 16, 2009.

Rain threatened throughout the morning, but held off long enough for the more than 40 teams to complete 18 holes at Tanglewood then transition to the Red Barn for lunch. That's when the skies opened.

”We are so appreciative of the Beroth family, their employees and their sponsors," said Rob Hudspeth, director of development for Walker College. "This was my first time attending the tournament and I was overwhelmed that so many people could come together and give so much -- in order to make this a truly special event. We all had a great time. Of course, the real winners in this tournament are the students that will receive the Beroth Scholarships.”

Appalachian graduate and Walker College of Business Advisory Council member Winfield Beroth, along with his family and business 4Brothers Food Stores, organize the event. All money raised benefits the Walker College of Business by providing financial support for student and faculty travel to conferences and class field trips, through funding for faculty research and professorships and by offering scholarships to students.

Details for the 2010 tournament will be availble online next spring.
