Walker College of Business Basic Skills Proficiency Test Scores

When you receive your test score results for the College of Business Basic Writing Skills Proficiency Test, you will see that the test score is reported as a number between 2 and 10, with 10 being the highest score and 2 the lowest score.

A score of 6 or above means that you passed the Basic Writing Skills Proficiency Test; a score of 5 or lower means that you failed the test.

The Basic Writing Skills Proficiency Test is read and scored by English professors in Appalachian State’s Department of English, faculty who have developed and refined this testing process over the past two-and-half years.  Using a set of criteria, each reader assigns a score of between 1 and 5 to an individual writing test; the two scores are then added together, and the resulting sum represents the final score.
