Gerald is a CPA in Virginia and North Carolina and a Certified Management Accountant. He spent two years in public accounting with one of the Big Eight firms and another fifteen years in industry before deciding in 2000 to pursue a career in academia. Some of the positions he held in industry included cost accounting manager, plant controller, and corporate controller/secretary-treasurer.

Gerald began teaching part-time in 1991 and joined the ASU faculty in 2004. Over the years, he has taught cost accounting, managerial accounting (MBA), intermediate (financial) accounting I and II, auditing, principles of accounting I and II, fundamentals of accounting (MBA), information systems, personal finance, and ethics. Gerald’s research interests include organizational performance measurement systems like the Balanced Scorecard, business process improvement techniques like Lean and Six Sigma, and other managerial accounting topics. Gerald’s articles have appeared in the following journals: British Accounting Review, Advances in Management Accounting, Management Accounting Quarterly, and Disclosures.
