The Department of Accounting is a part of the John A. Walker College of Business, which is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Over the years, the Department of Accounting has built a strong reputation for excellence in accounting education, and is highly regarded by accounting employers in North Carolina and throughout the Southeast. Accounting graduates from the John A. Walker College of Business are recruited by the largest international, national, and regional accounting firms as well as local accounting firms, industry and government agencies.

The Department of Accounting offers the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) degree and the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Accounting. The faculty and staff in the department are deeply committed to the success of our students. The keys to our students’ success include the following programs and events:

The Junior Year Experience
This is a series of seminars for junior level students that prepare them for entering the internship and permanent employment market in their senior year. The seminars focus on resumé preparation, interview skills, business dress, dining etiquette, and employer expectations for entry-level accountants.

Internships in Accounting
Every spring semester, the majority of accounting students receive academic credit for their participation in full-time, off-campus internships in accounting firms and industry. The majority of these students receive full-time permanent job offers as a result of their internship.

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)
The Appalachian chapter of this national honorary fraternity in accounting has consistently earned superior chapter status from the national organization over the past twenty five years.

CPA Exam Preparation
Appalachian students have consistently achieved high pass rates on the CPA exam, far exceeding the national average.
